What subject do you like?
與 “Do you have ___ on Monday?”,顯示語言已內化為溝通工具。

The lesson is grounded in the perspective of multimodal interaction, which views language learning as a dynamic process shaped by both verbal and nonverbal communication. Drawing on Hahl et al. (2024), Ellis (2003), and Richards & Lockhart (1996), I believe that video-based classroom observation enables teachers to analyze how multiple modes of communication support students’ learning. From Vygotsky’s (1978) sociocultural theory, classroom communication is a mediated activity where teachers’ verbal and nonverbal strategies act as essential tools for meaning construction. Verbal scaffolding—such as paraphrasing, spiral review, and connecting to students’ life experiences—helps learners build understanding within authentic contexts. Meanwhile, nonverbal scaffolds—such as realia, flashcards, videos, graphic organizers, and gestures—provide visual and contextual cues that enhance comprehension and engagement. Consistent with Krashen’s (1982) input hypothesis, these multimodal strategies increase comprehensible input, promote output, and lower the affective filter. Ultimately, I believe that effective language teaching integrates words, movement, sound, and visuals to create a supportive and interactive classroom. By blending these modes purposefully, teachers can cultivate a learning environment rich in communication, motivation, and real-life language use, especially for young or beginner learners. |
