  Lantern Festival

Chinese Lunar New Year is the most significant holiday in Chinese society. Celebrations begin on New Year's Eve and continue until the 15th of January of the lunar calendar. The Lantern Festival, begins on the last day of the New Year's celebration.

In week 14, we are going to teaching the eating culture. Eating is the most important thing in Chinese Culture. It's essential to know the rules on the table and get to know some key words of Chinese dishes. In the first class, we will talk about the eating manner in the restaurant and introduce some new words. In the second class, we will put emphasis on the sentence pattern and do a few practice, In the third class, we will teach some terms of making an order in the restaurant.

Miss Lin went to a Chinese restaurant in Statesboro, GA. Get to know the Chinese eating culture.

We will practice both Chinese Listening and Writing ability through the LTT assignment. After you hear the LTT , please write or type the Chinese you heard and help me to translate it into English. When you were done, please uploaded it on Folio or feel free to upload a photo with written form. 

We will do PRE LTT in class and you will do the rest at home. I offer the word bank for you. Enjoy your time.

Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, we will have online class from week 12 to week 16. I adjusted the scale of the grade and wish you could have a nice time during the pandemic.

 Announcement : 

Due to the break out of the CoronaVirus , we move all the lessons online. As for week 11 which is the suspend week for the spring break, we don't have fomal class but we have online trial review lessons for you to get use to the online lesson. 

I use the free app called ZOOM, please download it on your phone or computer and remember my meeting code "4738314397". We will have our online lesson on the regular time from 9:10 to 9:50. 

In addtion, for practicing the connection between Chinese and English, I made a few Google Quizzes which is 5 %  of the total grade. The links as fellow:

In the end of the semester, we are going to use up all the sentences we have learned and make a film.  The film festival will be on Week 16 ( April 27 - May 3) . Just like a family presentation, I will present your film and ask quesitons. Thus,please give me your script before so I can show your classmates the script after the film.

A: the sound is clear and the film is smooth enough for people to understand. 

B:  the sentence in not clear enough for people to understand

We are going to have our MIDTERM exam on Wednesday. As for beginners, especially in Chin 1001 students, the main focus would be on the oral ability and listening ability; meanwhile I wish you can recognize some basic Chinese WORDS like pronouns and normal verb and make a simple sentence.

A  Fluency without any help and hint. Moderate speed. 

B  take times to present a sentence. Need some hints to complete a sentence. 

C need help to complete a sentence. Teacher needs to say 50% to help he / she to finish the sentence. 

As for week 12, each of you will have a family presentation. Each of you will have three minutes to present your topic and others have to ask two question as minimum on the presentation day.  When you finish your presentation, you have to answer some questions from your classmates.
