新學期英語老師們如果接一二三年級都有可能面臨到要幫孩子取英文名這件事。方便上課的練習以及作答,以及方便學生日後的自我介紹。但是其實我們本身就有很美麗的中文名子,可以利用拼音的方式,幫助外國人發音,而每個中文都有自己的意義,當介紹自己名子的時候,也可以同時宣揚中華文化,也是不錯的外交呢。

故事大綱 :

The new kid in school needs a new name! Or does she?

  Being the new kid in school is hard enough, but what about when nobody can pronounce your name? Having just moved from Korea, Unhei is anxious that American kids will like her. So instead of introducing herself on the first day of school, she tells the class that she will choose a name by the following week. Her new classmates are fascinated by this no-name girl and decide to help out by filling a glass jar with names for her to pick from. But while Unhei practices being a Suzy, Laura, or Amanda, one of her classmates comes to her neighborhood and discovers her real name and its special meaning. On the day of her name choosing, the name jar has mysteriously disappeared, but encouraged by her new friends, Unhei chooses her own Korean name and helps everyone pronounce it–Yoon-Hey.

Yangsook Choi grew up in Korea. She started drawing at age 4 and loved telling her grandma scary stories.   課程設計 

 使用時機,開學取英文名子的時候。也可以連結到 當台灣出國比賽的時候,球衣上面的名子通常是 拼音。

 課程目標: 希望透過繪本學習

了解外國人念中文的難處,同時,讓他們理解 英語說錯了或是發音不正確不要害怕,多嘗試,建立自信。

增加學生對於自己文化的認同度以及自信。

勇敢跟外國人分享自己名子的意涵。

  兩堂課 ( 三年級上學期 Follow me 1 what's your name? ) 

warm up 

today we are going to tell a stroy. ( if your classroom have bigger space, you may invite your students to sit in front of you.) 

invite students to see the book cover and guess what is the story talk about? 

 

presentation :

Before reaqding

invite students to observe the picture carefully and use questions to guide students to tell the story 

While reading

teacher will umderline some key sentences to make sure the stroy goes well. 

After reading 

teacher poses some questions like "Will you introduce yourself in Chinese name or English? Why or Why not?" 

 

practice :

learn how to transfer your Chinese name into pinyin and design your name card

When students get ready, give each students a piece of paper and invite them to think about the meaning of their Chinese name and draw a picture. 

Teacher needs to help those who don't know the meaning of their Chinese name. 

For advanced students, teacher may invite them to write the English meaning of their Chinese name.

production :find your name 

Teacher gives each students a new name card and they have to use the sentence pattern, "What's your name?" to find their real name card. 

When they find their name card, they have to find the teacher for further activity. 

Anchor Activity: write a simple self introduction

My name is 陳淑女. 淑 means lady and 女 means female. My father and mother want me to be a lady. 

 中年級的小朋友,最後就讓他們設計一款中文加上英語拼音的名片。

invite all students to sit back and share how do they feel about the class?
