1. Intro –

Today we are going to introduce Dehydration, Water Borne Illness and Water Treatment. Tzu-Chun will talk about Dehydration for the first 7 mins and them Robert will talk more about Water Borne Illness and Water Treatment. We hope after this seminar you can tell me five signs of dehydration, how to deal with and avoid it. Also, we would like you all to know ( Robert’s goal )

In the end, we will ask you some questions about the seminar.

Start with a questions?

“Do you know how many percentage of water in human’s body?”  “How much FLUID should an adult take per day? Or How much water should you drink based on your weight? “

“How much water do you drink today?” (Invite them to make a line from the fewest to the most.)

Ask the fewest person some questions like “How do you feel?” “Are your lips dry?”

(A1: Up to 60% of the human adult body is water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.

  1. A2: Take your weight (in pounds) and divide that by 2.2.
  2. Multiply that number depending on your age: If you're younger than 30, multiply by 40. ...
  3. Divide that sum by 28.3.
  4. Your total is how many ounces of water you should drink each day.
  5.

We will confirm that students know the signs of dehydration by having them complete categorize & rank activity after the demonstration.

We will confirm that students how to make ORS WATER by having them make one after the demonstration.

Activity :

Divide the students into two groups and set up two stations.

Station one:

Rule: students work together to pick up the symptoms of dehydration from 16 cards and rank it from minor to sever.

Station 2:  Materials: water, sugar and salt.
