Adventure Ed Trip 1 – Suwannee River

      • $5 a day/ 2 Cars = $30 over the course of the weekend  
  • Proposed route of travel:
    • When the group arrives Friday afternoon, we will put in at Stephen C. Foster State Park. We will then make our way 10.8 river miles down to Woods Ferry River Camp from Stephen C. Foster State Park. Woods Ferry River Camp will be our campsite for night 1. On Saturday we will make our way 18.4 river miles to our second campsite Holton’s Creek River Camp. On Sunday Morning we will make our way from Holton’s Creek River Camp to Suwannee State Park 13.2 miles where we will take out. 
  • Explanation of this trip:
    • This is a fairly entry level river for canoeing and kayaking. With this group size we will be designated areas to camp which means that our environmental impact will be lessened.

Transportation

  •   We will meet at the stadium parking lot back near the water tower at 7am on March 6, 2020 and depart at 8am.
  • Dr.  and ____ will be our two drivers. 
  • Passengers include 
  • It will take us about 3 hours and 30 minutes to get to the music park and 1 hour round trip to take a vehicle to the State park. So, we are looking at about 4 hours and a half hours of total travel.
  • 214.4 Miles of total travel 
  • If we get separated any time on the way down there or back ___ will call me and we will pick a destination to meet at and regroup. This is also why I picked this route because it will cut down on our chances of getting separated while traveling.



 

Equipment: 

  • Individual packing list

    • 1-2 pairs of pants (preferably ones that dry fast EX: outdoor quick dry pants)
    • Rain jacket/ garbage bag(makeshift rain poncho)
    • 1-2 pairs quick drying shorts (athletic shorts will work)
    • 2 t-shirts (non-cotton/quick dry)
    • 1-2 long sleeve shirts (non-cotton/quick dry)
    • 1-2 sweatshirts (it gets cold at night)
    • 2-3 pairs of quick drying socks/underwear(need extra in case you fall in river or it’s raining) 
    • *try to avoid cotton material* 
    • Hat to keep sun off of face (ball cap)
    • Winter hat (non-cotton beanie)
    • Water shoes (must have a back to them. EX: crocs, chacos, tevas) 
    • 1 pair of dry shoes for camp

    •  We have one person who is Lactose Intolerant, so we don’t have milk or cheese in our meals.

    • We will store our food in our dry bags and put them in a location that will keep animals out of our food and keep us from attracting animals to where we are sleeping.
    • Leave no trace, each of us will bring a zip bag to store the trash we made.

      • Take 201st Path out to US 90 and take a right
      • Continue on US90/Base Street to Crane Ave and Take a right and Madison Memorial hospital is on the right

    • In case of an emergency where we needed to get in touch with someone for whatever reason calling someone would be the best option rather that be_______ or emergency response
    • Another Option is getting to a main road and flagging someone down by using any of the evacuation routes described

All together the total cost for this trip is $470. The total will be split between 10 people. Each person would need $47 dollars per person which includes food, gas, permits and to support extra needs such as snacks and drinks. However, some of it may be given back if we don’t spread as much on food and if some of the money is reimbursed. It can easily be as low as $34 dollars per person.
