the different usage of "May be" & "Maybe“
Maybe as an Adverb and both "MAY & BE " are Verb. Thus, we can tell "May be" & "Maybe“ , by viewing whether it is a complete sentence or not.
For example
1. "Maybe later on, you and I can go swimming together down at the holler," Susan offered.
2. "Maybe," Tom replied, "but Pa needs me to put the cows out to pasture first."
3. Maybe you can go online and get it tomorrow.
4. I may be young, but I am wise beyond my years.
5. Mia may be going to the beach today, but only if she doesn't have to drive herself.
in formal writing, we prefer to use "perhapers" , "Possible" , "likely”
you can't see the words and say its part of speech. You must put it into context
