Brave New World (First draft)
"I am ULLA, which stands for Upstanding Lifelong Learner and a Certificate Addict. My motto is 'Never stop learning.' Over the past three years, I have participated in various workshops for a total of over 600 hours, covering fields such as technology, bilingual education, STEAM education, and indigenous people in Taiwan. As the saying goes, 'Genius only means hard-working all one's life.' I may not be as smart as others at NTU, but I try my best to keep up with them. Additionally, I am also a certificate addict, always eager to participate in different national examinations and obtain certificates. To date, I have acquired the Certificate of English Tour Guide and English Tour Leader in Taiwan, as well as the Certificate of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. In conclusion, just as St. Augustine said, 'The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.' In the future, I’d like to Brave New World, teaching in different countries and keep learning.

An ethnic stereotype involves part of a system of beliefs about typical characteristics of members of a given ethnic group, their status, societal and cultural norms. Moreover, the racial stereotype spread out quickly through popular media like Hollywood films and Netflix drama. Take American comedy Superstore for an example, both African Americans and Asian people are commonly depicted in drama: the former as lazy and carefree characters from the lower socioeconomic strata, while the latter are often portrayed as intelligent and aggressive nerds. However, White people are always portrayed as effortlessly rising to leadership positions in the stories. According to Wyer and Radvansky, the media plays a significant role in shaping ethnic perceptions and interactions between different groups (Wyer & Radvansky, 1999). Although the media affected our mind unconsciously, there is some evidence that showed racial stereotypes particularly in White, Yellow, and Black in Superstore.

10 August 2d Comparison-contrast Essay II Comparison-contrast
analyze the given article
1. What is the thesis statement and how is it? (Yutaka)
1-1 thesis statement: For proof the failure driving success, consider examples from both science and art, including Thomas Edison, Vincent Van Gogh, and Stephen King.
1-2 The author seemed to successfully include the three examples (/figures) from science and art that are discussed in the article, by directly mentioning Edison, Van Gogh, and King in the thesis statement. The statement also seems to be consistent with the conclusion that failure precedes success, which the author explained in detail using other three paragraphs.
2. What are the beginning strategy, supporting details, and concluding strategy for each paragraph? (Ulla)
2-1 Quote from Henry Ford
2-2 specific examples like well-known people and celebrities to prove how instructive mistakes can be.
2-3 paraphrases: from other’s examples to daily examples. (empathy) to make people believe failure is a learning experience and the possibilities for self-improvement.
3. What is something good to learn? (Ari)
3-1 Start with a quote, a hook that catches the reader’s interest
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently,” wrote Henry Ford.
3-2 Introduction: From general to specific
Experiences -> Doing -> learn from mistakes
3-3 Reletable examples, some brief stories
Edison and Van Gogh are common. Stephen King is a famous novelist of horror fiction, which is familiar to English reading people.
4. What is something inappropriate to avoid?
4-1 no clear definition of success (Allison)
There’s no clear definition of success in this essay; therefore, it’s hard to tell that these three people were going from failure to success. Vincent van Gogh, actually became famous after he passed away and he didn’t experience success during his lifetime.
4-2 other’s example (Peter)
Everyone's life is a story, and stories will have twists and turns. The protagonists of the story have their own pursuits and ideals, but the readers may not understand them right away. Nikola Tesla, who defeated Edison in the electric current war, had many great inventions in his life. However, he did not rely on patents to make a fortune, but he did so through disclosing his inventions to the society. This also led to his parents being defrauded by many interested people, and he was impoverished in his later years, leaving a lot of debts after his death. Therefore,if we want to define one’s success or failure, we have to give a clear definition.
4-3 no transition between paragraphs (Allison)
This essay has two controlling ideas: examples from science and art. However, it doesn’t tell us the connection between the two controlling ideas and the three examples.
5. Create a new title for the chosen essay? (Richard)
“FAILURE: Find An Important Lesson , Unforgettable Reflection and Enlightenment.”
6. Bring a profound question for fellows after your analysis?
How do you define success? In a materialistic way or a spiritual way? (Different generations might have different answers )

Body Similar 2 Temperate marine climate
Both Denmark and the UK belong to temperate oceanic climates, normally happening in Northern Europe and the North Sea. Temperate oceanic climates feature comfortable temperature, rich rainfall, and strong wind. Firstly, the temperature remains quite suitable for people to live comfortably. Although Denmark and the UK share a latitude range of 60° N to 50° N, the temperature is not extremely cold. For instance, January and February are the coldest months with an average temperature of 0°C, while August is the warmest with an average temperature of 15.7°C. Secondly, the precipitation in Denmark and the UK comes in the form of rain for the majority of the year and the annual amount of precipitation is around 600 millimetres. William Shakespeare had written a poem to describe the UK’s weather. “When that I was and a little tiny boy, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, A foolish thing was but a toy, For the rain it raineth every day” (poets.org). Finally, both Denmark and the UK are known for their wind power, for the Westerlies offer strong wind all over the year.
To date, over fifty percent of electricity in Denmark is supplied by wind, while twenty-five percent in the UK. To sum up, the weather conditions in Denmark and the UK are alike in temperature, rainfall, and wind.
A Jubilant Denouement, Shalom!
