Idol(1987)為國外第一位將故事圖用在故事結構教學的學者，提出五項：

(1)背景 (the setting) ，包含主角 (characters) 、時間 (time)、地點(place)、

(2)問題(the problem)、

(3)目標(the goal)、

(4)行動(action)、

(5)結局 (the outcome)。
