今天看了兩個認識的朋友的演講,一個是關於戲劇融入教學,另一個是 CLIL 的 Do and don't ,難得認真做了筆記

- adapt and adopt materials according to the learning objectives and focus

- co-plan, co-teach with content teacher ( Heath, Art..) or even set up a teaching team

- form a meaningful context for students to apply the language

- content based learning 

- Apply real-life tasks, show & tell, oral presentaion as an evaluation of students' ability

 

 DON'Ts

- translate everything on the textbook into Chinese 

- teach / struggle alone

- only focus on the language elements like words or sentence patterns.

- focus on the objective of the content not English class but to use English as a media to teach the content 

- use the language testing ways like spelling, to evaluate students. ( language won't cause any problems of the evaluation)

 戲劇性的開始,開啟語言學習新舞台 A Dramatic Start to Language Learning / Cheyenne Maechtle outline 

part 1 ice-break activities  / basic activities for getting into drama 

Invite the students to make a big circle and to make sure everyone can see each other.

- emotional roller coater - to approve the robot dialogue / feeling dice 

- sing it. - offer a tune 

- new choice - to change sth in the dialogue 

- keep asking - preparation of impromptu speech

- grab a bag - story relay - use your imagination :

begin a story with a location and a magic bag, then pass the bag by saying a new word, the one who receieve the bag has to extend the story and think of a new word and pass to the next one.

What if we already had a pretty nice translator that can translate up to 20 to 80 languages or even more in the world, why we still have to learn English? Or Due to the high and fast development of technology, as an English teacher, what kind of language ability shall to teach to our kid?  

Mr. Lee introduced two translators that highly used in the real lives, which make me to think we shall push our students from understanding English to using it in the real world. How can we teach English in the real world? Mr. Lee mentioned CLIL is a nice way. In the second part, he introduced the basic idea of CLIL.

She menteioned a story about  a fourth grade boy who reminded her not ot judge things by its appearance and as a teacher we should train ourselves to view our students from 2 D TO 3D OR EVEN 4D. 

 

跨領域課程設計:只有零碎時間也能教好創意寫作Using Fragmentary Time to Teach Creative Writing Fully / Rex Liao

Writing is the most difficult ability for me and it really hard to teach as well. Mr. Liao mentioned that we spent less time in teaching how to write and we focus on test-based writing which made students lose interests and motivation. I really like the idea of creative writing. teacher has to set up no standard and think of topics that related to Students' real lives so that students are willing to try, to write and to improve.
